The Sacraments at St Cuthbert’s
The Sacraments are the heart of our parish life. Through them, Christ strengthens and sustains His Church.
Baptism

“I baptise you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” – Matthew 28:19
Baptism is the beginning of the Christian life and the gateway to the other Sacraments. Through Baptism, we are freed from sin and become members of Christ and His Church. At St Cuthbert’s, Baptism is normally celebrated on Sundays after the morning mass Mass. Parents are expected to attend a preparation session and to be committed to raising their child in the practice of the faith.

First Holy Communion

“I am the living bread which came down from heaven.” – John 6:51
The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life. In Holy Communion, we receive the Body and Blood of Christ and are united more deeply with Him and with one another. Children usually prepare for First Holy Communion from Year 3 onwards through a parish programme of catechesis and regular participation at Sunday Mass.
Parents wishing to enrol their child in the preparation programme should contact the parish via the contact page.
Confirmation

“Receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” – Acts 2:38
Confirmation strengthens the grace received at Baptism and equips us to live as faithful witnesses to Christ. Candidates take part in a structured preparation programme that includes catechesis, prayer and reflection. The Sacrament is ordinarily celebrated by the Bishop.
Young people and adults wishing to receive Confirmation should get in touch through the contact page for details of the next preparation course.
Reconciliation (Confession)

“Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them.” – John 20:23
The Sacrament of Reconciliation restores us to grace when we have fallen into sin. It offers forgiveness, healing and renewal through the mercy of God. Confession is available weekly and also by appointment.
For scheduled times, please see our home page. To arrange an appointment, contact the parish through the contact page.
Marriage

“What God has joined together, let no one separate.” – Matthew 19:6
Christian marriage is a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman, rooted in faithful love and open to the gift of life. Couples wishing to marry at St Cuthbert’s must meet with the Parish Priest well in advance of the proposed date. Preparation includes pastoral meetings and completion of the required canonical paperwork.
Please contact the parish at least six months before your intended wedding date via the contact page.
Anointing of the Sick

“Is anyone among you sick? Let them call for the priests of the Church.” – James 5:14
The Anointing of the Sick brings spiritual strength, peace and healing to those who are seriously ill, elderly or preparing for surgery. It may be received more than once if a person’s condition worsens. The parish priest is always willing to visit those who are housebound or in hospital.
If you or a loved one would like to receive this Sacrament, please contact the parish immediately through the contact page or telephone the office for urgent situations.
If you have an enquiries or questions, please contact us via our contact form or by using the contact information – both on our contact page.
